Black Myth: Wukong will be part of a trilogy14th September 2020
The gaming world was recently set abuzz after stunning footage from Black Myth: Wukong appeared online.
The title is being developed by Game Science Studio and it will adapt the classic Chinese fable known as ‘Journey to the West’ written by Wu Cheng’en in the 16th century.
The tale largely follows Sun Wukong – also known as the Monkey King – as he is tasked with escorting a monk to retrieve the original Buddhist scriptures for China.
During the prologue, Sun Wukong is born from a stone and learns the art of Tao, including 72 polymorphic abilities and secrets, such as transformation and immortality.
The trailer appeared seemingly out of nowhere and stunned viewers with its beautiful re-imagining of the epic tale while showcasing several notable scenes from the original text.
Afterwards, gaming enthusiasts worldwide were sent into a frenzy as they looked for more details on the upcoming game.
New information was eventually unearthed when Game Science Studio spoke with IGN and revealed that Black Myth: Wukong will be the first game in a trilogy based on Chinese folklore.
It is not year clear whether each entry will re-imagine portions of Journey to the West, or if separate fables will be chosen for each new title.
The studio has reportedly been developing the game for two years, and hopes to release it in no more than another three.
The developer plans to go quiet for the foreseeable future and has no intention of showing anymore gameplay footage until it is confident that the next trailer will impress people even more than the first.
