Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will enter its fifth season in August and it may introduce the mysterious Shadow Company.

There have been many rumours circulating over the past few weeks, particularly about what will happen in the free-to-play Warzone battle royale mode.

Some of the rumblings have suggested the Stadium area of Verdansk will be opened up while other whispers claim there will be a train full of loot roaming around the map.

It is still unclear what changes Season 5 will bring to Modern Warfare, though, popular streamer TeeP recently received a mysterious package.

It contained a Rook chess piece alongside a USB drive with an intriguing message from Shadow Company.

Senior Officer Marcus Ortega explained to TeeP that the group had kept an eye on him for some time before deciding to finally reach out to the streamer.

The Rook chess piece was sent for a particular reason, chiefly because “it can do two things; a frontal assault or a sweeping flank”.

“The Black Rook gives zero sh*ts about misdirection or dancing, fancy diagonals. The Black Rook is bruteforce embodied – that’s us,” Ortega continued.

He proceeded to explain that Shadow Company is deployed to clean “uncleanable messes” and to eliminate targets other squads simply cannot handle.

This isn’t the first time streamers have been approached by either Infinity Ward or a Modern Warfare character.

Back in May Captain Price sent videos to some content creators, such as DrDisrepect, stating he was building an elite task force.

The fan-favourite character was then officially introduced as a playable operator in Season 4.

Others have noticed that one of the skins for the Mace operator bears an image of a Rook surrounded by two bolts of lightning.

This symbol resembles Shadow Company’s logo from Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and as such, may be a re-imagining of the symbol.

All this has led many to believe that Shadow Company will be officially introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Season 5 which will launch early in August.
