Cyberpunk 2077 ‘will sell 20 million copies in first year’
Cyberpunk 2077 will sell 20 million copies in its first year of release, a respected analyst has boldly predicted.
It is being developed by Polish studio CD Projekt Red, the masterminds behind The Witcher 3.
To put the analyst’s prediction into perspective, the developer’s last release only managed to sell 20 million units after four years.
Even more surprising is that, on average, new releases often begin at the retail price of £50. If Cyberpunk 2077 manages to sell that many copies at full retail price in just one year, it would generate an earth-shattering one billion pounds from game sales alone.
While the title is undoubtedly highly anticipated and likely to sell many units, the analyst’s forecast is mind boggling.
It came from Bloomberg’s Matthew Kanterman.
He wrote: “Poland’s largest video game maker could beat analysts’ 2020 sales forecasts with the April release of its much-anticipated role-playing game, Cyberpunk 2077.”
“The game could sell 20 million units in the launch year.”
In the forecast, Kanterman does not provide any statistics relating to how it could manage to sell so many copies within its first year on the shelves.
Given that it took The Witcher 3 four years to sell that many units, it is hard to imagine Cyberpunk 2077 doing so well.
Though, since CD Projekt Red’s last release the studio has risen to meteoric popularity and earned much acclaim for the title – generating significant hype surrounding its latest venture.
Cyberpunk 2077 will hit the shelves in April, 2020.
