Ex Rockstar employee hints at GTA 6 release date
A former Rockstar employee has indicated when Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA) may finally be arriving, though it is bad news for those hoping it will come this year.
The publisher is often tight-lipped when it comes to its projects and given Red Dead Redemption 2 only released in October 2018, it is unclear if a new blockbuster title will arrive any time soon.
At the same time, the GTA franchise is one of gaming’s most successful and each iteration sells like wildfire upon release.
The fifth main entry – released in September 2013 – was still PlayStation’s second-most downloaded game which required purchase in 2019.
Many fans were hoping the latest one would coincide with the release of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 but an insider claims otherwise.
To give credence to speculation, GTA 5 was released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 months before the release of the current generation consoles.
However, this does not appear to be the case this time around.
Equity firm Jeffries recently spoke with former Rockstar employee and industry veteran Darion Lowenstein, reports The Daily Star.
The insider has worked with other various key players such as Activision, EA and Scopely.
One of the primary talking points from the conversation was to not expect GTA 6 “any time soon”.
Reportedly, the earliest anyone could expect its release would be at the back-end of 2021 – essentially a full year after the launch of the next generation consoles.
He also does not anticipate an announcement or teaser trailer any time soon, either.
