New Bioshock game officially in the works

11th December 2019 0 By Jordan Heal

A new studio – Cloud Chamber – is being established to develop the next Bioshock title, 2K Games has announced.

The first entry debuted back in 2007 and took the world by storm with its unique take on philosophy, inspired by Ayn Rand’s ‘Atlas Shrugged’.

It received much acclaim and subsequently a follow-up in 2010 before a third game entitled ‘Bioshock Infinite’ was released in 2013.

For six years, fans have eagerly awaited a new entry to the franchise and now their patience looks like being rewarded.

Cloud Chamber is a wholly-owned development studio under 2K’s publishing label.

It will initially have its team split between two locations – firstly in 2K’s San Francisco Bay headquarters in Novato, alongside one in Montréal, Québec – marking the first-ever Canadian-based office for the company.

Its decision to open a Montréal office was even supported by the Gouvernement du Québec and Montréal International.

It now joins the likes of Visual Concepts, Firaxis Games, Hangar 13, Cat Daddy Games and 2K Silicon Valley as the company’s wholly-owned development teams.

While long-time supporters will no doubt be enthralled by the news, the announcement states the new Bioshock game will be in “development for several years”.

This is indicative that it will debut on the next generation of console hardware, Project Scarlett and the PlayStation 5.

David Ismailer, president of 2K, said: “As we continue to grow our product portfolio, we remain inspired by opportunities to invest further in our valuable IP.

“Bioshock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation.

“We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.”
