Dark Horse announces new God of War comic23rd March 2020
Dark Horse has announced the creation of a new comic to bridge the gap between Kratos’ life in God of War 3 and the latest instalment.
The most recent entry to the franchise – released back in 2018 – took the narrative in a vastly different direction.
It departed from its traditional Ancient Greek roots and moved toward exploring Nordic culture, introducing the likes of Odin, Thor, Loki, Baldur and Freya, alongside the protagonist’s son Artreus.
The decision proved to be fruitful as the title won Game of the Year and is widely regarded as a masterpiece in both gameplay and story.
While it was interesting to see a mature Kratos – particularly one embroiled in a tale of fatherhood – it did little in the way of explaining how he found himself in Midgard.
There were occasional titbits offered that helped fill the gaps but now, Dark Horse’s latest comic adaptation will detail it all.
The series is titled ‘God of War: Fallen God’ and it will reportedly take place immediately after demigod defeats Zeus and Athena at the end of the original trilogy.
Chris Roberson will be writing the narrative. He has previously worked on media under the same name alongside other notable franchises such as Hellboy, iZombie and Aliens.
“Believing himself to be finally free of his bondage, he sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind,” reveals ComicBook.
“Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable—himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites madness.”
