Uncharted movie eyes Fleischer as SEVENTH director
Despite Travis Knight only having walked away last week, the Uncharted movie seems to have spied its seventh director.
The film has been hotly-anticipated for a number of years now and it has been a drawn-out journey after having lost numerous directors.
It is based on the PlayStation exclusive series of the same name and was developed by Naughty Dog, also known for The Last of Us.
The franchise details the adventures of treasure hunting legend Nathan Drake alongside his wife Elena Fisher and friend Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan, to name a few.
The cinematic project is expected to be a blockbuster with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg cast as Drake and Sully respectively.
The previous director, Knight, made his first live-action debut with the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee, but quickly departed the PlayStation Productions and Sony Interactive collaboration reportedly because of Holland’s busy schedule around Hollywood.
The current screenplay draft has been compiled by Rafe Judkins and the Iron Man team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
Rumblings have since emerged that Ruben Fleischer – known for his directing on Venom and both Zombieland films – has risen to the top of the list as the next director.
Deadline reported Sony Pictures had devised a shortlist of directors it would like to see spearhead the project and, since Fleischer sits atop that list, the job is his so long as he wants it.
At the moment, it is unclear if he is interested in the position but it would certainly be a positive for fans if Knight’s replacement is decided so soon, particularly after having already lost six directors since the idea’s creation.
