Genshin Impact grossed more than $100 million in less than two weeks12th October 2020
Genshin Impact has grossed more than $100 million in less than two weeks since its release on PS4, PC and Mobile.
The hit free-to-play title was developed by studio MiHoYo and falls under the category of a ‘Gacha’ game, as it incorporates a capsule-toy vending machine mechanic.
This is very similar to loot boxes that Western audiences have become familiar with, as it is essentially just another form of a microtransaction that offers players a chance at a rare item or character for real money.
Despite the overwhelming criticism against in-game purchases in the industry, it has performed remarkably well.
Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners, recently shared some interesting statistics on the hit title’s success.
He revealed that Genshin Impact has grossed more than $100 million since it debuted less than two weeks ago.
China, Japan, Korea and the United States are reportedly the markets where it has enjoyed the most success.
All this led to Ahmad stating the title is “without a doubt the most successful launch for an an original IP from a Chinese developer”.
