Nomura confirms more Kingdom Hearts games are on the way
Despite the release of Kingdom Hearts 3: Re Mind, Square Enix has already confirmed more titles under the franchise’s name are coming.
Mastermind Tetsuya Nomura is yet to confirm whether they will be numbered entries to the series, or extra editions.
He answered a series of questions online to tease fans about them.
“We still have some time with regards to mainline Kingdom Hearts, but first up the KH UX (Union X) will have a surprising announcement tomorrow,” he said.
“Aside from the KH3 and KH UX teams, we actually have two new teams in operation and from them one title will be coming surprisingly soon.”
The mobile games X and Union X have enjoyed much success and this has led to the announcement of Project Xehanort – the first piece of news Nomura referenced.
It teases a brand-new Kingdom Hearts experience is making its way to iOS and Android devices in the spring and subsequently began a campaign asking people to guess the name of the forthcoming title.
While it is now clear what the Union X team will be developing, Nomura said there are now two new studios developing Kingdom Hearts content.
Last year, eGaming Desk reported on how Square Enix was hiring new staff to work on the series – which now makes more sense in light of the mastermind’s recent comments.
In any event, Re Mind and the upcoming mobile game should be enough to quench the thirst of fans ahead of the other two projects and this should reassure them the future looks bright for the franchise.
