The Witcher: Monster Slayer is an upcoming AR mobile game28th August 2020
The Witcher: Monster Slayer is an upcoming mobile game that utilises augmented reality (AR) technology like the popular Pokémon Go.
It is being developed by Spokko – a mobile games studio purchased by Polish developer CD Projekt Red back in 2018 – and will arrive for iOS and Android devices later this year.
CDPR is perhaps best known for creating the hugely popular Witcher video game franchise and given its success, it makes sense the developer would tap into the equally successful mobile games market.
The title is reportedly set a “long time before the time of Geralt of Rivia” but it will contain an overarching narrative for players to work their way through.
The description for the forthcoming mobile title reveals that players will “experience story-driven quests that propel you through epic adventures inspired by the Witcher series”.
The trailer for the upcoming title is reminiscent of Pokémon Go as a person wanders around walking their dog until suddenly, a Leshen (a monster featured heavily in the Witcher games) appears on his phone screen ready for battle.
While obvious comparisons have been drawn to the popular pocket monsters title, reports are suggesting Monster Slayer’s combat is going to be more in line with the mechanics found in The Elder Scrolls: Blades.
There is no confirmed release date for The Witcher: Monster Slayer just yet, but the trailer did tease it will arrive “soon” for iOS and Android.
