Man loses 139 pounds playing Pokémon Go
A man has lost a staggering 139 pounds just by wandering about playing the Pokémon Go mobile game.
Niantic, the developer behind the hit title, shared ‘Tommy’s story’ – the tale of a university student in London.
When Tommy first installed the game and began playing it, he weighed close to 350 pounds which equates to 158 kilograms or 25 stone.
He initially only went on the app for roughly 20 minutes per day, but this has since grown into hours on a daily basis while he tackles various raid bosses with the local community.
The beloved game released back in the summer of 2016 and has long been a fan-favourite and one of the most, if not the, best performing apps to emerge on mobile devices.
It takes a unique spin on the franchise where instead of roaming around a virtual world on a handheld console, the player instead explores the real world hunting down the pocket monsters.
It utilises geo-location technology to embed virtual creatures and locations in real-life places such as shops, churches and canals.
While it was largely empty at the beginning, Niantic has endeavoured to continually update the game with various Pokémon from later generations in the franchise. As such, it is scarcely dry on new content.
Since playing, Tommy has shed 139 pounds, with his weight now around 63.5 kilograms.
He has said he feels happier and frequently socialises with his new friends found in the Pokémon Go community.
