Ghost of Tsushima to add four player co-op with ‘Legends’ expansion18th August 2020
Developer Sucker Punch has announced an expansion for Ghost of Tsushima which will add multiplayer modes for up to four people.
The upcoming online features will be available as a free update for owners of the critically acclaimed title and it should arrive later this year.
The base game itself focuses on the story of Jin Sakai, though, the protagonist will not feature in the new expansion.
This is because Ghost of Tsushima’s narrative is heavily revolved around single-player experiences that cannot be repeated online.
Instead, Sucker Punch has revealed the multiplayer will consist of “four warriors who have been built up as legends as in told in stories by the people of Tsushima”.
Rather than focusing on deep exploration of the in-game world, the add-on will allow players to team up and complete an array of missions with fantastical elements inspired by Japanese folklore.
There will be four classes to choose from including a Samurai, Hunter, Ronin and Assassin that emulate the different combat styles Jin employs during the base game.
The two-player online experience will enable gamers to embark on a series of co-op missions that “escalate in difficulty, building on the foundation of combat from the single-player campaign but with new magical twists”.
Teams of four will also be able to join up and tackle wave-based Survival missions where countless enemies swarm them, including new Oni foes that possess supernatural abilities.
While the ‘Legends’ add-on for Ghost of Tsushima is free, players will need a stable internet connection and active PS Plus membership to use it.
