The Last of Us Part II had the best UK launch of 2020 so far22nd June 2020
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II hit the ground running as it became the UK’s best game launch of 2020 so far.
The previous record for this year was held by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, though the action adventure title has eclipsed this by roughly 40%.
It is also became the biggest first-party game launch for the PlayStation 4, ousting Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – another game developed by the same studio.
It should also be noted that these figures only include retail sales.
Interestingly, The Last of Us Part II debut sales have also been 76% greater than the original game on the PS3.
Notably, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has since dropped out of the top ten UK games for the first time since it released.
The current rankings, as per GamesIndustry, now stand as:
1.The Last of Us Part II
2. Ring Fit Adventure
3. FIFA 20
4. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
6. Grand Theft Auto 5
7. Minecraft (Switch edition)
8. 51 Worldwide Games
9. Pokémon Shield
10. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
The sales for Naughty Dog’s latest game are incredibly impressive, though this was to be expected given how sacred the original game is held by many gamers worldwide.
It is also promising to see that despite the major leaks that spoiled some key story details, fans were not dissuaded from grabbing themselves a copy.
