YouTube TV now accessible on PlayStation 423rd January 2020
YouTube TV has suddenly become available on PlayStation 4 after Sony decided to ditch its own Vue service.
The channel becomes the first live TV third-party subscription service to be available on the console.
Scrapping Vue at the end of this month could pave the way for other channels like Hulu and Sling TV to make a case for also becoming available through the platform.
Vue didn’t even get close to the sort of numbers Sony had hoped it might achieve in terms of spreading the footprint of its service offerings, leaving bosses no option other than to pull the plug.
However, making YouTube TV available has been a recent development which might mean Sony could warm to the idea of further collaboration with other TV providers.
“Unfortunately, the highly competitive pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected,” Sony executives said when announcing they were dropping Vue.
“Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business.
“PlayStation fans can continue to access movie and TV content through the PlayStation Store on PS4 and via our partnerships with top entertainment apps.”
YouTube TV can be downloaded from the PlayStation store here.
