Twitch contract issues led to Ninja jumping ship, says wife and manager5th October 2019
Video game streaming sensation Ninja abandoned Twitch in favour of Microsoft’s growing Mixer platform because of contract issues, according to his wife and manager Jessica Blevins.
Speaking to Business Insider, Blevins revealed Ninja did not leave the world’s most popular streaming platform for the money following accusations of “selling out”.
She claims the star left the Amazon-owned Twitch platform because the company would not listen to what the pair were asking for, resulting in several conflicts.
“With the wording of how that contract was going, he (Ninja) wouldn’t have been able to grow his brand much outside of gaming,” says Blevins.
Another major reason behind the shock switch boiled down to the level of toxicity developing on the popular streamer’s chat.
Ninja reportedly expressed a desire to hit the reset button and begin again, wiping away the people who had been plaguing his chatroom.
Soon enough – and while the negotiations with Twitch persisted – Microsoft entered the fray.
“Microsoft was so aligned with what we wanted and where we were at,” Blevin says.
“Microsoft backing us up and giving us support — it was such a warm, friendly environment. And when Tyler sat down, looked at the platform, and messed around with it, it was a quick decision. But it just felt like the right one to make.”
Twitch has been contacted for a comment by eGaming Desk but we have yet to receive a response.
