Ex WWE star Dave Bautista will be in Gears 5 multiplayer

Former WWE world heavyweight champion and wrestler Dave Bautista is set to feature in the Gears 5 multiplayer mode.

Gears 5 is a third-person shooter video game and is the sixth instalment in the franchise, serving as a sequel to Gears of War 4.

Gears of War 4 debuted a new set of protagonists with Gears 5 set to continue the story of the newly-introduced characters.

Dave Bautista – who retired from the WWE back in April after losing to lifelong friend Triple H at Wrestlemania 35 – has been vocal in the past about his desire to star in Gears of War.

Back in July and in response to a fan who wanted Bautista to feature in a Gears of War movie, the ex wrestler responded: “They’re listening. And they could give AF!… but thank you for the support. Believe me when I say I’ve tried everything to make it happen.”

While it doesn’t look likely that Bautista will get to don the role of Marcus Fenix any time, it has now been confirmed that he will be featured in the upcoming Gears 5 game.

He won’t be a playable character in the main story mode though. He will be featured as a character skin for the online multiplayer mode.

Announcing the news, Bautista posted a video of himself decked out in the signature Gears armour and tweeted:

“It’s about damn time. Play as me in Gears 5 starting September 15 after WWE Clash of Champions.”

Gears 5 – which has been abbreviated from Gears of War – is released tomorrow, though Xbox Game Pass owners were able to begin playing yesterday.

However, and as Bautista himself revealed, fans won’t be able to rock the former pro wrestler’s look until September 15 after the WWE Clash of Champions pay per view (PPV).

When launched, Gears 5 will be available on the Xbox One and Microsoft Windows platforms.
